Message from Chief & Council:

Addressing Hurtful Comments on Social Media

Dear Community Members:

We are reaching out with concern regarding the increase in hurtful and disrespectful comments being made on social media by and towards members of our community.

As leaders, we are saddened to see division, judgement, and personal attacks being shared online. Social media is a powerful tool - but with that power comes responsibility. The words we post can uplift or deeply wound others. Even when we may not agree, we must always strive to communicate with kindness, honesty, and respect.

We understand that people may feel frustrated or going through difficult times. However, using public platforms to shame, attack, or spread negativity only deepens the hurt within our community. This is not who we are, and it does not reflect the teachings and values we were raised with.

We urge all members, young and old, to think before posting. Ask yourself:

• Is it respectful?

• Is it necessary?

• Does it build or break down our community?

If you are experiencing, or have concerns that need to be addressed, we encourage you to reach out directly to the Chief and Council, or the appropriate support services. Let us find healing solutions together.

Let us walk in a good way with one another, online and offline.

With respect,

Bruce Reece

Chief Councillor
