The Gitga'at First Nation is pleased to announce that Molly Creek Forestry Ltd. and Flicker Land Management Ltd. will be visiting Hartley Bay from April 19th to 23rd to conduct a Community Wildfire Threat and Risk Assessment.
This assessment is an important step in developing a new Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan, a plan that will help protect our people, our lands, and our way of life from the growing threat of wildfires.
Why This Matters
As climate change continues to affect our region, wildfire risk is a reality that communities across British Columbia must take seriously. Proactive planning allows us to better understand the risks we face and take meaningful steps to protect our community before a crisis occurs.
We are grateful for the opportunity to work with Molly Creek Forestry Ltd. and Flicker Land Management Ltd. to build a plan that reflects the needs and values of Hartley Bay residents.
How You Can Get Involved
Your voice is essential to this process. During the team's visit, community members are encouraged to:
Contribute to climate resiliency planning for Hartley Bay
Learn about wildfire planning initiatives and what they mean for our community
Share your concerns and knowledge about how wildfires could impact our lands and families
Attend an in-person community meeting during the visit
We encourage everyone, Elders, youth, families, and community leaders, to come forward, ask questions, and share their perspectives. The more input we gather, the stronger our plan will be.
Community Meeting
An in-person community meeting will be held during the April 19–23 visit. Details on the exact date and time will be shared as they are confirmed. Please watch for updates.
