The Reconciliation Advisory Committee (RAC) is opening up an expression of interest for new members. The RAC directs the engagement and communications with Gitaga'at members, and communicates the results of the engagement to leadership and our negotiating team. If you've seen me at a community meeting in Hartley Bay, Prince Rupert, or online, that meeting was developed through the RAC.
Currently the RAC includes representatives from elected council, hereditary leadership, youth, elders, and members from Hartley Bay and Prince Rupert. Meetings are twice a month on a Tuesday evening, and last about an hour for each meeting.
Again, if you've come to community meetings in the past, you know that we are currently working on Gitga'at's independent government process, including the development of a constitution. That will be on the agenda for the RAC for the foreseeable future, along with continuing to direct engagement with community around our ongoing Reconciliation Negotiations.
If you are interested in joining the RAC, please send me an email at ericanderson@gitgaat.ca along with a brief note about why you're interested in joining.
We've been meeting for about two years now, and are looking forward to some new members joining the conversation.
