They recently announced their first aid training schedule for 2025.
Why First Aid Training is Important
First aid training equips individuals with lifesaving skills to respond to emergencies at work, at home, or in the community. It ensures people can act quickly and confidently in situations like choking, injuries, or cardiac arrest.
For Gitga’at members, these skills are essential for safety on the water, in remote areas, or during community events.
Upcoming First Aid Courses
Hecate Strait offers several levels of first aid training to meet different needs:
In January, Hecate Strait will offer Basic First Aid (Formerly Occupational First Aid Level 1).
Date: January 20, 2025
Time: 9 AM - 5 PM
Cost: $174 + GST (includes mask and manual)
Prerequisites: Physical mobility and ability to perform CPR

In February, they will offer Advanced First Aid (Formerly Occupational First Aid Level 3).
Date: February 10-14 & 17-21, 2025
Time: 9 AM - 5 PM
Cost: $1,100 + GST
Prerequisites: Physical mobility and ability to perform CPR (no prior levels required)

Other Training Opportunities
Hecate Strait also offers additional training sessions, including Fall Protection and Confined Space Entry & Monitor, in Prince Rupert throughout the year. These courses are an excellent opportunity for Gitga’at members to gain skills that enhance workplace safety.
