Truth and Reconciliation Events in Hartley Bay

As Truth and Reconciliation Day approaches, the community is coming together for several events in Hartley Bay. This day is an opportunity for reflection, connection, and participation, and we invite everyone to take part. Here's a list of events happening in Hartley Bay so you can make plans to join in.

Scavenger Hunt

To kick off the Truth and Reconciliation weekend, Megan Basso has organized a scavenger hunt on September 28th. The event will start at 10:30am, and the first three groups to complete the hunt will win prizes! Each group must have a family member or trusted adult with them. It's a great way for families to have fun together.

Cedar Hat Weaving Workshop

Join Char Ryan and her family for a special cedar hat weaving workshop on September 30th. They will arrive that day on the ferry, and the workshop will happen once they're settled. Char will host this hands-on session, teaching participants how to weave beautiful cedar hats. The workshop is limited to making 12 hats, and space is limited, so let Char know your interest if you'd like to join!

Community Walk

As part of what has become an annual tradition, a community walk will be on September 30th at 2:00pm. The walk is an opportunity for all of us to come together, remember, reflect, and support one another. We will meet outside the Cultural Centre, and since the weather is getting cooler, don't forget to dress warmly!

Community Dinner

On September 30th, we'll come together for a community dinner at the Feast Hall. Last weekend, the Men's group went to Old Town to catch 15–20 fish for the meal. Jenny, Vanessa, and Teri will make side dishes and order ingredients to ensure there's plenty of food for everyone. We'd love to see as many community members as possible join us for this meal.

Orange Shirts

Havana Fisher designed this year's orange shirts. Once they arrive, we'll distribute them to the community. We encourage everyone to wear their orange shirts during and after Truth and Reconciliation Day. The shirts look amazing, and we can't wait to see the community wearing them!
