Prince Rupert Member Engagement on Child and Family Services Jurisdiction, October 23 to 25

Gitga’at members living in and around Prince Rupert are invited to take part in a community engagement on the future of child and family services for our Nations.

The Northwest Inter-Nation Family Community Services Society (NIFCS) is hosting a Member Engagement at the Crest Hotel in Prince Rupert from October 23 to 25, 2026. The gathering is open to members of Gitga’at, Haisla, Lax Kw’alaams and Metlakatla who live in the Prince Rupert area.

This work is about our Nations taking back jurisdiction over how our children and families are cared for. Decisions about our children should be guided by our own laws, values and ways of knowing. Hearing from members who live away from home is an important part of getting this right, and your experience and ideas matter.

NIFCS has already held engagements in Hartley Bay and Metlakatla. You can see some of that work in this short video.

How to register

Please register by Wednesday, October 21, 2026. You can scan the QR code on the event poster, or contact Kirsten Prevost, Jurisdiction Coordinator at NIFCS, at (778) 884-4054 or kirsten.prevost@nifcs.org.

If you know Gitga’at family members living in Prince Rupert, please pass this along to them. The more voices we hear, the stronger this work will be.
