Gitga'at First Nation is looking for five community members to serve on two advisory committees established by Chief and Council. Four seats are open on the Housing Committee and one seat is open on the Finance and Audit Committee.

These committees give community members a real voice in how housing is managed and how our Nation's finances are planned and reviewed. If you care about the future of Hartley Bay and want to help guide decisions that affect families across the community, we encourage you to put your name forward.

Housing Committee

We are seeking four community members to join the Housing Committee. The open seats are for one Elder (55 and older), one youth (ages 18 to 29) and two community members. A Council member and the Housing Manager also sit on the committee as non-voting members.

The committee makes recommendations on housing policy and procedures to the Housing Coordinator, who reports to the Band Manager and on to Chief and Council.

Members take part in the ongoing review of established policies on

  • Home ownership

  • Housing and tenant selection

  • Housing emergencies

  • Insurance

  • Maintenance and repairs

  • Appeals

Letters of interest for the Housing Committee are due November 13, 2026.

Finance and Audit Committee

We are seeking one community member to join the Finance and Audit Committee, alongside a Council member and the Finance Representative.

The committee reviews and makes recommendations to Council on draft annual budgets, the multi-year financial plan, the financial performance of Gitga'at First Nation, and quarterly and annual financial statements. Council remains responsible for making the final decisions.

This seat is a good fit for someone with financial competency, meaning the skill and knowledge to make sound financial decisions.

Letters of interest for the Finance and Audit Committee are due November 15, 2026.

Who Can Apply

To be eligible for either committee, you must

  • Be in good financial standing with the Band (and with the Housing Department for the Housing Committee)

  • Not have been removed from a board, committee or other body for breach of confidentiality within the last five years

  • Know how to demonstrate fairness and integrity

All committee members are appointed by the Band Manager in accordance with the Committee Terms of Reference approved by Chief and Council.

How to Apply

Submit a letter of interest to Band Manager Teresa Robinson. Let us know which committee you are applying for and, for the Housing Committee, which seat (Elder, youth or community member). You can send your letter
