You don’t have to travel far to enjoy your summer. Make the most of the season by enjoying some of the favourite activities in Gitga’at territory.
Ways to Fill Your Summer Days
The kids are out of school, the days are longer, you’ve taken some much-deserved time off, and perhaps you’re unsure how to fill your time. Here are some of the best things to do around Hartley Bay this summer.
Visit the Boardwalk
Along the waterfront is the Hartley Bay Boardwalk. Slow down, grab a cold drink or some ice cream, and saunter along the waterfront. There’s plenty to see, with boats coming and going, the occasional seaplane arrival, and beautiful views. The boardwalk is nice and wide, so there’s room for several people to spread out and enjoy the fresh air coming in off the water.
Go to a Provincial Park
There are several provincial parks nearby that are well worth exploring. Klewnuggit Inlet Marine Provincial Park offers marine-accessible wilderness camping, hiking, canoeing/kayaking, swimming, and more. Another great location is Lowe Inlet Marine Provincial Park. Though it offers some of the same activities as Klewnuggit Inlet, this location has excellent waterfall views and places to watch migrating salmon.
Check out a Conservancy
Get on your boat and go to one of the nearby conservancies to learn more about the biological diversity of the natural environment in Gitga’at territory. Observe the local floral and fauna, observe wildlife, and take in the great outdoors at one of the local conservancies, such as:
Banks Nii Luutiks Conservancy (Banks Island)
MacDonald Bay Conservancy (Gil Island)
Lax Ka’gaas/Campania Conservancy (Campania Island)
Book a Spirit Bear Tour
The bear-viewing season often runs from June to October. Spirit Bear tours attract many tourists to the area, but it’s also a memorable experience for locals. If you haven’t seen one of these gorgeous bears out in the wild, it’s an excursion you won’t soon forget.
Take a Day Trip by Air
Whether you want to get away for the day and explore somewhere new or see Gitga’at territory the way birds do, chartering a plane is one way to add some adventure to your summer. With stunning views and access to new places, you may want to book another flight soon.
Summer Adventure Awaits
