Participate in a Research Study. Your Voice Shapes Research

Gitga'at First Nation community members are invited to take part in a research study exploring the connection between experiences of racism and self-damaging urges and behaviours (such as binge drinking, disordered eating, or self-harm).
This study is being led by Dr. Jesus Chavarria and the Research on Addiction & Disparities (RoAD) Laboratory at Western University, and it has received ethics approval from Western University's Research Ethics Board (ID #124023).
You may be eligible if you:
Are at least 16 years old
Are Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Colour
Live in Canada
Have been treated differently because of your race or ethnicity
Experience urges related to binge drinking, disordered eating, or self-harm/suicide
The study involves:
A 1–2 hour online interview
Mental health and wellbeing surveys
Brief smartphone surveys about your daily experiences (~2 weeks)
Interested community members can complete a short (2–4 minute) confidential pre-screening survey by scanning the QR code on the attached flyer or using the link below:
