Time: 8:30am - 5:30 pm

Location: Kamloops Centre for Water Quality. 1315 River Street.

BC Onsite Septic Sewage Systems Risk Assessment course will help you evaluate as to how well your community sewage systems are performing. does the sewage system serve the needs of the residents, were they property designed, built, maintained, or is the system being used to capacity? If they are not working properly, can they be restored, need replacement, or have their lifespan extended? For these reasons, risk assessment is an important component of evaluating performance of onsite systems and asset management. In this course, you will learn:

  • Use of risk assessments for asset management, long-term infrastructure budgets and emergency preparedness.

  • Estimating system condition, life expectancy and repair or replacement costs from an asset management perspective.

  • Options and methods for locating buried components of a sewage system.

  • Site assessment: Looking at land features for impact by or to a sewage system.

  • Determining if improvements for safety, performance, and/or lifespan are viable and cost-effective.

  • Determining appropriate corrective action for restoring systems back to proper operation

  • Examination and assessment of typical components including tanks, treatment plants, pump chambers, pipe manitolds, pipe networks, valves, and pump control systems.

This course is sponsored by Indigenous Services Canada. All tuition, books, travel, accommodation, and meals are covered through ISC, except operator wages. These must be covered by the employer.
