Are you or someone you know interested in launching a career in the skilled trades? BC Hydro’s Try-a-Trade program is now accepting applications from Indigenous candidates across British Columbia. This exciting 16-week program offers paid, hands-on experience designed to open doors to rewarding careers in the trades.
What to Expect
Participants in Try-a-Trade receive a well-rounded introduction to life in the skilled trades, including:
Paid work experience
Classroom-based learning
On-the-job training alongside BC Hydro crews in communities throughout the province
Previous program placements have included roles such as:
Power Line Technicians
Electricians
Communications Protection & Control (CPC) Technicians
Meter Technicians
This is a unique opportunity to learn from experienced professionals, gain valuable technical skills, and build a foundation for future apprenticeship opportunities.
Who Should Apply BC Hydro is looking for Indigenous candidates who:
Have a high school diploma (Dogwood, Adult Dogwood, or GED) with English 12, Math 11, and Physics 11
Have some education or work experience in a trades or mechanical setting
