New Support for Gitga'at Members Applying for a Status Card

Alice Wood and Teresa Robinson have recently completed the training to become certified Indian Registry Administrators (IRAs). Going forward, they can help members with their status applications, making the process more accessible.

Alice and Teresa can assist those living in the community by helping them complete their status applications. However, even with the help of these two ladies, applicants still need to sign their forms in person. If members are not in the community, this may require coordination to get the necessary signatures.

Upcoming Support Opportunity

Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) will attend the basketball tournament in February. They will provide in-person assistance with status applications, offering another chance to complete the process.

For any questions about Indian Registry inquiries, you can email ira@gitgaat.ca.

Steps to Apply for Status

  1. Get the Application Forms: You can access them online, pick them up at an ISC regional office, or request them by mail.

  2. Determine if You Need a Guarantor: A guarantor may be required if you are applying by mail, using a photo ID that doesn’t meet all requirements, or submitting an application on someone’s behalf.

  3. Gather Supporting Documents: If applying for a Secure Certificate of Indian Status (SCIS), include two copies of Canadian passport-style photos with your application.
