The Gitga’at First Nation is now accepting nominations for the upcoming General Council Election. If you are a member and know someone who would serve ou community with dedication and vision, now is the time to nominate them!

Nomination Meetings

6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

February 5, 2026 -- GDC Building – 623 3rd Ave West, Prince Rupert

February 6, 2026 -- Hartley Bay Memorial Center – 312 Weexaa Avenue, Hartley Bay


  • You must be a Gitga’at member and 19 years or older as of March 20, 2026 to nominate, be a candidate, or vote. Any elector may vote in person, online or by mail-in ballot.


  • All electors living off-reserve will be mailed a mail-in nomination package to the last known address of record. Others who wish to nominate by-mail should contact the electoral officer.


  • Off reserve membersshould ensure the band or electoral officer has your current address to receive a mail-in ballot package.

  • Electors may nominate or second other electors in person at either nomination meeting or deliver completed mail-in nomination forms to the Electoral Officer, including by email to: ronlauferelections@gmail.com. An elector may be nominated for both Chief Councillor and Councillor.


  • Mail-in nomination forms must be received by the electoral officer by 6:00 PM on February 6, 2026.


Nominee Requirements

(please review the the election code if you plan on standing for election):


  • Nominees with a criminal conviction are not eligible to hold office.

  • Nominees have until 9:00 p.m. on February 11, 2026 to submit a Candidate Acceptance Form and a Criminal Record Check (dated no earlier than September 12, 2025).

  • Criminal Record Checks may be obtained from the RCMP or for faster results, through online companies such as: https://mycrc.ca/ or https://www.tritoncanada.ca/

  • Candidacy Acceptance Forms, the Voter List and the Gitga’at First Nation Electoral Code are available at the Gitga’at Administration Office or via the Electoral Officer.

1:00 PM – 7:00 PM

March 19, 2026 -- GDC Building – 623 3rd Ave West, Prince Rupert

March 20, 2026 -- Hartley Bay Memorial Center – 312 Weexaa Avenue, Hartley Bay
