Two to three “pockets” will be set up off the Western Shore of Hawkesbury Island, approximately 5.5km SW from the mouth of Kiskosh Inlet. These pockets will comprise boom sticks approximately 100m off the shoreline. Boom sticks will be marked with markers and lights. They will be held open with a tugboat while in operation.
A Temporary Log Storage Area will be set up in Coghlan Anchorage. It will be located on the Western shore of Promise Island, approximately 900m SE of Harbour Rock Marker. A Temporary Log Storage Area will be set up in Goat Harbour. It will be located on the Western shore of Goat Harbour, approximately 1500m East of the mouth. These pockets will comprise boom sticks approximately 100m off the shoreline. Boom sticks will be marked with markers and lights.
Maps showing the approximate location of the drop zones and temporary Log Storage Areas are attached.
GFN Contractors will collect excess debris from the water drop and dispose of it in the forest, where it can decompose and contribute to the nutrient cycle.
Marine Mammal Observers and VIH Logging will monitor the area for whales. If whales are within 400 m of the drop zones, operations in that area will cease and continue in another area.
All communications from the tug operator will be done over Channel 6. The tug operator will have direct communications with the logging helicopter.
Probyn will give the community 24 hours' notice if any changes to this plan arise. The notice will be sent to Nicole Robinson, GOLD Community Liaison, who will post it publicly on Gitga’at’s Social Media Pages.
