Gitga'at Community Engagement Event: Shaping the Future of Child and Family Services

Your voice will shape a new children and family system, built by our Nation, for our Nation.

The Gitga'at First Nation, in partnership with NIFCS (North Coast Family Support Services), invites all community members to a special engagement event focused on the development of inherent jurisdiction over Child and Family Services.

Why Your Voice Matters

Community members are invited to take part in an important conversation about the future of Child and Family jurisdiction in Gitga'at. Together, we'll explore our values, traditions, and priorities to help shape a path forward and one that reflects the needs, voices, and strengths of our children, families, and community.

Everyone in the community is encouraged to come out and participate, including:

• Youth

• Parents and Caregivers

• Elected Leadership

• Hereditary Leadership

• Families and community members

Schedule for the Day

9:00 – 9:30 AM	Continental Breakfast
9:30 AM – 4:00 PM	Engagement Session
4:00 PM	Community Dinner

Meals provided throughout the day include continental breakfast, lunch during the engagement session, and a community dinner to close things out.

Key Discussion Topics

The engagement session will dig into four guiding questions:

1. What does it mean for Gitga'at to take back control of our children?

2. What is truly in the best interests of OUR children and families?

3. Our Guiding Principles and Values like what must guide Child and Family Jurisdiction?

4. Legal Traditions, Customs, and Ways of Being such as bringing our laws, culture, customs, and protocols to life.

Participation Honoraria & Prizes

Showing up matters, and the Nation wants to make sure participation is recognized:

• $50 gift card for every participating community member

• Raffle prizes: 1st Prize = $500, 2nd Prize = $300, 3rd Prize = $200

• Additional door prizes: 15–20 available throughout the event

• Child minding subsidy: $50–$100 per day, provided as a gift card
