Gitga'at First Nation is pleased to share that a dedicated Claims Helper has been assigned to support our community through the First Nations Child and Family Services (FNCFS) and Jordan's Principle Settlement.
This is an important opportunity for community members who may be eligible for compensation under the Removed Child Class or the Removed Child Family Class and all support is completely free of charge.
What Is the Settlement?
The First Nations Child and Family Services and Jordan's Principle Settlement is a landmark agreement to compensate First Nations individuals and families who were impacted by the child welfare system and failures in Jordan's Principle. For more information on eligibility and the claims process, visit FNChildClaims.ca.
How Can a Claims Helper Support You?
A Claims Helper can meet with you privately, one-on-one, or in a group information session to:
Walk you through the application process step by step
Answer your questions about the Settlement
Help ensure your application is complete
Provide support in a way that feels clear and comfortable
Private appointments can take anywhere from 15 minutes up to 90 minutes, depending on your individual needs.
In-Community Sessions – Coming to Hartley Bay
Gitga'at First Nation is actively coordinating an in-community visit to Hartley Bay. Sessions will also be extended to reach members living in Prince Rupert.
